Travel

As a passionate globe-trotter and diary-keeper, I’ve got a stack of off-the-beaten-path travel stories. I found myself in China during the four-month build up to Tiananmen Square in 1989, witnessed the Velvet Divorce between the Czech Republic and Slovakia on New Year’s Eve 1993 and spent time in Libya and Syria a couple of years before the recent political troubles.

I also succeeded in getting my son hooked on independent travel at a young age. We set off on our first backpacking trip together when he was eight and since then we’ve had adventures in Tibet, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and India.

Other regions I’ve explored include Ethiopia, Easter Island, Chile, Ecuador, India, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Egypt, Cuba, Indonesia, the USA and huge tracts of Europe.
